All you need to know about joining MaP Doctoral School.
Current ETH doctoral students
MaP Doctoral School aims to connect doctoral students in Materials and Processes. Our students benefit from courses, symposia, and workshops where they learn relevant skills (e.g. science visualisation), present their research to others, and initiate collaborations. Fun is part of the deal!
If you want to join and benefit from the school's offers, you must
- already be registered as a doctoral student at ETH
- be part of a research group belonging to the Competence Center for Materials and Processes MaP (list of members).
Note: You might already have indicated that you would like to be part of MaP Doctoral School when filling in the general doctoral administration forms. This is NOT sufficient to join. Please register here (except D-MATL students: use this form).
Q & A
What do I need to do as a member of MaP Doctoral School?
Nothing. There are no additional obligations. We hope that you will be active in the community, but you can complete your doctorate without contributing anything. Only the current Ordinance on Doctoral Studies and further detailed regulations in your home department apply.
What does MaP Doctoral School expect of me?
We hope that you will become an active member of our community by:
- participating in our events
- contributing posters and talks at the MaP Graduate Symposium
- presenting your research to others, enabling cooperation across departments
- volunteering for organising committees or as MaP student representative
- proposing/organising new event formats that benefit doctoral students at ETH

The school focuses on fostering networking and transdisciplinarity among doctoral students of associated research groups.
