History

From the idea to the launch

Following initial ideas by Prof. Lucio Isa (D-​MATL), later also by Prof. Dennis Kochmann (D-​MAVT) to launch an interdisciplinary doctoral school, the idea, to found a MaP Doctoral School was born in the 2019 MaP Steering Committee Meeting. In the following, we run surveys among MaP professors and doctoral students respectively, discussed the framing of such a School at the MaP General Assembly (2019, 2020), with a “sounding board” of MaP doctoral students, the MaP Advisory Board, and also with D-​MATL (department conference, professors conference, strategy commission), and of course, the ETH Rectorate / Vice Rector Antonio Togni.

A core group of 23 MaP professors filed a proposal to launch the MaP Doctoral School to the ETH Executive Board in fall 2020. The ETH Zurich Executive Board approved its launch in December 2020. News from the Executive Board 2020 / 7
