Programme and Submission Details
- Fourteen doctoral students, selected by the organising committee, will have the opportunity to present their research in Materials and Processes to a large audience. This presents a unique challenge, as they must communicate their work effectively to a diverse audience that extends beyond their own ETH department.
- Attendees can actively participate by answering quiz questions related to the talks, competing for the prestigious title of MaP Mastermind. The winner will be awarded a CHF 50 gift voucher in recognition of their knowledge and engagement.
- As in previous years, each presenter will receive detailed feedback on their talk from a postdoctoral researcher or senior scientist after the symposium, helping them refine their presentation skills and scientific communication.
- MaP Scientific Talk - People's Choice Award: At the end of the day, the audience will vote on the best talk for the day. Make sure you don't miss a talk. The best talk presenter will win a gift voucher of CHF 250.
- Posters presented by doctoral students in Materials & Processes will highlight the diverse range of projects in the field. In addition, all poster presenters will give a brief pitch to introduce their research.
- During the poster sessions and the coffee break, poster presenters will be ready to explain their research and answer questions about their posters (odd numbers: Poster session I, even numbers: poster session III).
- MaP Poster Awards: Poster presenters will compete for the MaP Gold and Silver Poster Awards. A jury consisting of the organising committee members and postdocs (step I) and faculty members (step II) will select the best posters. Criteria include the abstract, the poster, the pitch, as well as the presentation to the faculty jury. Up for grabs for the best posters: gift vouchers of CHF 350 and 250 respectively.
- MaP People's Choice Poster Award: Will the symposium audience reach a different verdict than the poster jury? The winner of our public vote will receive a gift voucher worth CHF 250.
- Industry poster prizes: In addition, our industry partners will award thematic poster prizes, each valued at CHF 500. These prizes will be granted based on criteria set by the respective partners. So far, there are two industry poster prizes: the Geistlich Regeneration Poster Prize and the NeoChemurgy Poster Prize.
Besides prizes and awards, there are other forms of recognition. Pick up your sticker set at the registration desk and <3 the best posters.
- Members of MaP research groups are invited to submit their research images for the MaP Image Contest.
- All entries, showcasing the beauty of Materials & Processes, will be exhibited during the MaP Graduate Symposium.
- Attendees will have the chance to vote for their favourite image (public vote only). The image with the most votes will be awarded the MaP Best Image Prize.
- The winner will receive a CHF 100 gift voucher along with a special print of their image.
- Four selected MaP Award finalists will present their research during the dedicated session at the MaP Graduate Symposium.
- They will try to convince a jury of experts from academia and industry.
- Following the presentation, the jury members will convene to determine the most promising doctoral thesis of ETH Zurich in Materials & Processes submitted in 2025.
- All finalists will receive a MaP Award puzzle ball (pictured). In addition, the winner will receive a prize of CHF 3,000.
