Cross- and Transdisciplinary Formats and Topics

To tackle today’s complex scientific and societal challenges, research must often reach beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines. At the MaP Doctoral School, cross- and transdisciplinary formats support this broader perspective by fostering exchange across fields and encouraging collaborative thinking.

Crossdisciplinary topics—such as experimental and characterisation tools, simulation and modelling, materials processing, data-driven approaches, and sustainability—are embedded in the School’s matrix structure and explored through seminars and hands-on workshops. These offerings complement the five thematic tracks and help broaden students’ scientific horizons beyond their core expertise.

At the same time, a transdisciplinary layer connects this technical foundation with wider societal and industrial relevance. Through calls for student-led formats like thematic symposia or summer schools, the MaP Doctoral School promotes engagement with mission-driven themes such as health, low-carbon solutions, circularity, energy, and infrastructure.
