First MaP Minds & Munchies event with Arturo Winters and Alexander Firlus

Doctoral students presenting and discussing their ideas and research in an informal setting over lunch - that's the idea behind 'MaP Minds & Munchies'. The first edition of the new event series took place on Wednesday, 11 October 2023 at ETH Hönggerberg.

The first MaP Minds & Munchies event took place on Wednesday, 11 October 2023 at the Siemens Auditorium at ETH Hönggerberg.

Arturo Winters (D-MATL) talked about an upcoming publication that he currently is writing. He needed (and received) input and suggestions on how to make it more understandable and closer to application. Its working title: A comparison of fluctuations arising from two different microscopic models.

The second speaker, Alexander Firlus (D-MATL), is about to finish his doctorate. He talked about the big picture of his upcoming postdoc work and led the discussion in what solutions and future research directions the field of sustainable metallurgy has to offer to reduce CO2 emissions.

About 17 doctoral students attended the event, including the event initiator and MaP student representative, Christopher Dreimol (D-BAUG). As was his intention, everyone felt safe in this setting to bring forth their arguments in the discussion and to ask questions.

At the lunch offered by MaP Doctoral School, the lively discussions continued, hopefully setting the basis for new (research) ideas and for expanding the students' networks.

The next event of the MaP Minds & Munchies series will take place on 15 November 2023 at LEE E 101 (ETH Zentrum). If you'd like to present, please contact us at .
