[Sustainable&Bioinspired] In-person seminar with Prof. Peter Fratzl from Max Planck Institute

About 50 participants took part in the first in-person event of the 'Sustainable & Bioinspired Seminar Series' last Friday and listened to Prof. Fratzl’s ‘Thoughts on Bioinspired Materials and Sustainability’.

by Barbara Lau-Hauser

On 25 November 2022, the third seminar of the 'Sustainable & Bioinspired Seminar Series' was held in-person at ETH Hönggerberg campus. The seminar series organised by MaP Doctoral School, Julie Laurent (Complex Materials, Prof. André Studart), and Yong Ding (Wood Material Science, Prof. Ingo Burgert) aims at inviting experts from the field to help doctoral students and scientists to question and discuss the future challenges in Material Science.

In his talk, Prof. Fratzl gave a general discussion on how bioinspired materials can contribute to the carbon-neutral challenge and resource shortage. He advocated that scientists, engineers, and designers need to work on this interdisciplinary research topic together to make a prompt impact on sustainable development.
