First-year doctoral students meet at MaP Doctoral School's Onboarding Event

MaP Doctoral School welcomed doctoral students from groups affiliated with the Competence Center for Materials and Processes (MaP) to its 'Doctoral Students Onboarding Event'.

Some twenty first-year doctoral students met at the Siemens Auditorium last Tuesday evening for the 'Onboarding Event'. After the 'Big Bang' event to launch MaP Doctoral School last year, this was already the second event to welcome new doctoral students into the school.

School Director Prof. Lucio Isa first introduced the school in general and then proceeded to present the 'Soft Materials' track he co-chairs with Prof. Athina Anastasaki. Since the chairs of the 'Advanced Manufacturing' track, Prof. Markus Bambach and Prof. Mirko Meboldt, could not attend, Prof. Isa presented on their behalf as well. Afterwards, Prof. David Kammer (Strength  & Durability of Materials), Prof. Mathieu Luisier (Science & Technology of the Small), and Prof. Ingo Burgert (Sustainable & Bioinspired Materials) each offered an overview on what their track is about.

After the plenary session, the students were divided into four groups. Sitting in a circle, each doctoral student introduced their research and explained how they had ended up at ETH Zurich. Their peers gladly took the opportunity to ask questions and thus started expanding their personal network. At the following apero riche, this networking continued, rounding off a successful onboarding event. MaP Doctoral School is hoping that many of the attendees will become active and engaged members, who'll help shape the school and its activities!
