Based on a motivation statement, ten doctoral students of the ‘Advanced Manufacturing’ track were selected to take part in this practice-oriented workshop. While the kick-off meeting (introduction, assignment) was held online, the workshop itself took place on site. Forget sitting down and listening to talks: Marco Zbinden had the participants moving around, exercising their voices and non-verbal communication. Structured feedback loops allowed them to build on strengths and work on blind spots. It was a very intense day with lots of interaction in a very motivating atmosphere. To round off the experience and repeat what they had learnt before, the workshop participants met again a few weeks later to repeat and practise their pitches again. There was never a dull moment.

The aims of the workshop, namely, to learn to structure a pitch, to align own and external perception, and to improve performance skills on various communication levels, were fully achieved. Participants especially appreciated the trainer’s high engagement and how he made sure to meet their individual needs.
