[Sustainable & Bioinspired] Excursion to the Freiburg Botanical Garden

On 18 July 2022, the "Sustainable & Bioinspired Materials Track" co-chaired by André Studart & Ingo Burgert travelled to the University of Freiburg in Germany. They met with scientists from the Cluster of Excellence: Living, Adaptive and Energy-autonomous Materials Systems (livMatS).

After a presentation of the Nature-inspired research done at external pagelivMatS, lab visits were organised to learn more about their 4 research areas: energy autonomy, adaptivity, longevity, and societal implications and sustainability. Then, the doctoral students had the opportunity to present their own projects with great follow-up discussions. Finally, external pageProf. Dr. Thomas Speck guided them passionately through the Botanical Garden, from which scientists take inspiration for their work! The day ended with a friendly dinner in Freiburg.
