Mechanobiology Seminar Series 2024/25
Mechanobiology – where mechanics & engineering meet biology
Hosted by: Dr. Céline Labouesse, Dr. Jaimie Mayner, Dr. Michele Nava, & Dr. Zanetta Kechagia
Upcoming seminars:
- Thursday, 19 December 2024, 16.30-17.30
The seminar is designed for on-site participation. A zoom link will be shared with before each session to enable participation of early career researchers from Basel and other locations.
After the presentations, stay and network while enjoying drinks and snacks (offered by MaP Doctoral School).
If you are interested in presenting, please .
Programme
Mechanobiology is a wide field of research that covers any topic related to the physical and mechanical understanding of living systems and their applications, bringing together biologists, physicists, engineers and material scientists. For this community, spread across multiple groups and departments at ETH Zurich, we offer a platform to meet fellow mechanobiology enthusiasts during an informal seminar series where early career scientists will present their work.
These series are entitled “Mechanobiology Seminars” intended in the broadest possible sense. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
- multiscale polymer behaviour of chromatin
- force-dependent nuclear transport of proteins
- phase separation mechanisms in cell signalling
- niche mechanics in stem cell differentiation
- mechanobiology of neuron development
- bone and tendon biomechanics
- shear flow control of cardiovascular & endothelial function
- development of 3D mini-organs and organoids.
Each session will consist of two presentations by early career scientists on their research project (30 min per talk, including Q&A). Two dates will be reserved for invited keynote speakers. Each session is concluded with networking opportunities.
Active participation desired
Whatever your background, if you are interested in interdisciplinary biology research (bio + mechanics, materials, engineering, physics …), please join, and consider presenting. It also does not have to be experimental, theoretical and modelling approaches are of course welcome as well! Talks are given in person, but will be streamed on Zoom. And if you come in person, you can in addition enjoy the snacks and drinks at the end.
