Workshop: How to be a Kind and Happy Researcher
MaP Doctoral School organised a new workshop on how to foster kindness and happiness among researchers in January 2024.
Have you ever felt exhausted after a long day at the lab and asked yourself what you are doing this all for?
You are not alone. Many young researchers struggle at some point during their doctoral studies.
To discover the four pillars of a kind and happy research life or learn specific tactics designed to increase happiness and kindness in their personal and research life, about 20 students attended the new MaP Doctoral School workshop!

The workshop covered:
- The research behind well-being and kindness
- What we can do about the mental health crisis in academia
- Promoting a culture of kindness and compassion within the research community
- How to increase individual well-being and mental health through proven strategies
- Managing stress and maintaining a positive mindset
- Self-care practices and resilience-building techniques to navigate challenges.
Participants got to try out well-being and kindness tactics during applied exercises. They left with practical tools to improve their well-being and that of others. The goal is that they can create an environment where individuals, institutions, and the scientific community flourish.
Your trainer: Dr. Emma Geoffray
Emma has experience in international research (particularly in Switzerland and Germany) in the field of theoretical particle physics. Following her graduation in early 2023, she conducted successful training programs on the topics of mental health, planning and presentations for researchers. Known for her engaging teaching style and her ability to create an inclusive learning environment, she is dedicated to supporting the academic growth of junior scientists. Her goal is to weave together her research background, with her writing skills and years of acting, to deliver high-impact and entertaining workshops.
